Stories, Travel Ideas and Visitor Information for Your Next Trip to Buena Vista, Colorado

High Water, Low Water, Or No Water!

Having the Buena Vista River Park in our back yard is a real treat. Besides offering incredible freestyle kayaking features, it’s also home to some world class outdoor activities, both on and off the river. With the reduced water levels this summer, we’ve still enjoyed the park just as much as other summers. When the flows are a bit lower (300-1000cfs) the river park is prime for downriver Stand Up Paddling (SUP), and learning to whitewater kayak. There are lots of friendly eddies, waves and rapids to play in; and the water is warm.

Besides bringing your stand up paddle boards and kayaks to BV, be sure not to forget your mountain bike and/or bouldering shoes. There’s mile after mile of buttery smooth singletrack and jeep roads (for all ability levels), as well as a few choice boulder problems. For the more adventurous, there even some challenging rock climbs tucked away in the hills that are accessible by bike or 4 wheel drive vehicle.

The Beach Riverside Venue in South Main Buena Vista ColoradoWe’re all very excited about the park’s latest edition. The Beach is an outdoor venue conveniently situated above the LoDo wave. With picturesque views of the river, a sandy floor, tasty cocktails and live music, it’s the perfect apres spot for a day on the river, boulders or trails.

Come on down to the Buena Vista River Park and enjoy the hear of soul of the Upper Arkansas River Valley!
