CKS Hosts Free Stand Up Paddle Demo Nights All Summer Long

Stand Up Paddling (or SUP) has grown exponentially in popularity over the past few years. It used to be the quickest growing paddlesport in the world, but it’s been deemed the fast growing sport overall…that’s right, ahead of NASCAR, NFL football, and FIFA soccer;  This user friendly hybrid of surfing and paddling, that was once limited to coastal areas, has finally made it’s way to the Rocky Mountains. Lakes, rivers, streams and ponds are all superb environments to try the various forms of SUP (down river, SUP surfing, touring and flat water exploration).

Many local residents of Buena Vista have taken up this great sport for it’s health benefits, and also for the fact that it’s just plain fun! With a large pond that’s walking distance from the center of town, we have started an informal paddling and demo session that meets Tuesdays evening in the summer and fall at Town Lake in McPhelemy Park. Many families from in and out of town have become regulars at the event. It’s a great opportunity to learn the basic strokes, get the feel for standing on a paddleboard in a safe environment, and have the opportunity to demo as many different types of boards as possible.  Kids and Adults are also welcome to demo lake and river kayaks also.

Colorado Kayak Supply invites you to come demo all kinds of boats, boards and paddles including boards from Badfish Stand Up Paddle a local SUP company from Salida, Colorado, our neighbor to the south.  Their boards are very stable, and perform well.

The Buena Vista town pond is located at the intersection of HWY 24 and East Main St, in McPhelemy Park. Look for The Buena Vista Train Depot; the pond is right behind it. You are invited!  Join us this Summer for SUP Tuesday’s 6 – 9 pm for a fun evening of Stand Up Paddling in beautiful Buena Vista, Colorado!
